APPLYING TEXTURES
USE WITH OPACITY MASKS FOR T-SHIRT DISTRESSING WITH YOUR OWN ARTWORK AND DESIGNS.
OPACITY MASKS (1): Download and Extract All before using in Adobe Illustrator. Textures will be applied at the end of your workflow with your own finished artwork. Applying a BMP Texture with an Opacity Mask will punch through the design to show the garment color.

OPACITY MASKS (2): To apply Textures to your own T-Shirt Designs, Duplicate the finished layer to preserve your layers and Group. Resize your design to the desired size of the T-Shirt using the Properties Panel or Scale Tool.

OPACITY MASKS (3): File - Place a BMP Texture over your finished Group. Resize or Scale to Fit over your own Design. Select the BMP Texture and Group. Click "Make Mask" in the Transparency Panel. Toggle Invert and Clip until the garment color shows through your design.
APPLYING TEXTURES

Using BMP with a Clipping Mask (Draw Inside): Use a duplicated shape of your design to place the Texture (Inside). We will be using the Draw Inside feature in Adobe Illustrator to create an easy Clipping Mask. The first thing you will need is a duplicate shape of the area you are looking to place the Texture Inside. Click on the Shape and select "Draw Inside" on the Toolbar. File - Place Embedded your Bmp Texture. Adjust using Transparency Panel.

Using BMP as Opacity Masks: This method of masking is used a lot for T-Shirt Design (using your own original artwork). The idea is to have the garment color shine through your own design. The Texture will not print but rather cut through your design to give a vintage or worn appearance. First select your finished design and the BMP Texture. Go to the Transparency Panel and click "Make Mask." Toggle Invert and Clip to get to the desired look.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your tutorials. It's one think to draw on paper, yet another to create artwork directly in Illustrator and yet again a completely different game to take hand drawn work into Illustrator. You've managed to make this process make sense and again, I thank you for your video tutorials, they've been a real godsend.jeremy rozen
